R166 000 For Women & Men against child abuse

The 2009 Sisters with Blisters walk raised R166 000 for Women & Men against child abuse.

Women & Men Against Child Abuse is a Non-profit organisation committed to fighting for the rights of the child and to end the abuse of children in South Africa, through a multifaceted, dynamic and aggressive offensive against any form of abuse and gender violence.

Women & Men Against Child Abuse was founded in 1997 as a Non-Government, Non-Profit, Section 21 Company, with Section 18A tax status.

The spiralling increase in the sexual and physical abuse and neglect of children necessitated the provision of victim-friendly comprehensive support for these children and their families, as well as the implementation of preventative campaigns and education programmes.

Walking my way to Paris

Who would have thought that getting involved with the Sisters with Blisters walk would see me walking my way around Paris!

On the spur of the moment, I decided to join in on the walk with my Fiancé and her company Pageants SA & titleholders, who had formed a group to support Sisters with Blisters.

Having recently recovered from a triple fusion back operation, this was my first step to getting back on the road. Having previously participated in 11 Comrades Marathons, various cycle races including the Argus, The Jock, 100 milers and much more, I felt it was time to get back on my feet and this was just what I needed to get me going again.

Taking a casual walk around the course with some members of our group was really uplifting and the enthusiasm captured me once more and has spurred me on to take on the challenge of running the Comrades again in 2011.

Winning the Grand Prize to Paris was absolutely amazing and was the highlight of my life since I have never won anything and to top it all, have never ever been overseas before.

This prize resulted in me using the trip to France as a stepping stone for a five week Honeymoon of a lifetime! I was able to see nine countries in Europe with my wonderful wife Carolyn including France, Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Brussels & Luxembourg.

Nicolas from Trafalgar Tours went out of his way to assist us with the week in Paris, booking us in at the Timhotel Tour Eiffel Hotel, a few minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. He also assisted us with our Visa requirements and arranged our transport from the airport and a wonderful day trip around Paris.

Before we knew it we were winging our way to Paris a day after our wedding.  Leaving Johannesburg on the A380 on Air France on the 25th April we started a honeymoon that most can only dream about.
